IFA, June 25- July 1, 2007
IFA reported that a growing number of investment professionals are tackling the CFA exams, leading to a higher level of investment standards globally. The article quoted Emilio Gonzalez, saying “ Though the CFA designation is internationally recognised, CFA Institute must continue its leadership role in ensuring the global investment industry strives for the highest standards of integrity and professionalism”. Australian Financial Review, June 18, 2007
Barrie Dunstan from the Australian Financial Review writes that interest in the CFA program is rapidly rising among the world’s investment professionals. Growth has been explosive in Australia, too, with 1076 members now compared with only 144 in 2000, and a huge rise in the number of candidates. Emilio Gonzalez, the first Australian to hold the position of incoming chair to a board of 19 members, says the rise in interest reflects industry demand for top-quality people, who tend to influence standards and ethics in investment businesses. Financial Standard editor-in-chief Alex Dunnin reports on the success of the Institute over the past 60 years. A particular focus of the article was teaching on professional ethics. He reported Emilio Gonzalez’s comparison of the role of CFA Institute to that of a doctor in that they “provide professional expertise and advice … intertwined by a commitment to a professional ethical code”.

Money Management news editor Darin Tyson-Chan writes that CFA Institute is raising the bar in ethics and professional standards. He quotes Dr Jan Squires, CFA Institute Managing Director of Asia Pacific, who says that CFA charterholders are playing a role in helping capital feel safe in those markets in terms of technical standards of competence, knowledge, skills and abilities.
